A low priced racing game that slipped under the radar.

GTI Racing is a racing game that tries to offer a healthy mix of simulation and arcade gaming, but leans more towards arcade gameplay. To play the game you get to choose from the biggest collection of legendary European Volkswagen Golf cars.

A Game That Is Worth Trying

If online sales figures are anything to go by, then this smart and classy little game has slipped under the radar since its release for the PC. It seems that it is not that popular despite being a good game. This sort of thing happens from time to time. There are times when games are great to the point where mentioning only their initials is enough (e.g. GTI, FTL, GT), and then there are games like this one and Return to Krondor that slip under the radar from what appears to be poor marketing.

Poor Marketing Must Have Killed This Game

The problem you are going to come across is the fact that this game looks like so many others. It looks like a game you have already played. The creators have never given you any of their differentiating features or unique selling points. In marketing terms it is the equivalent of trying to sell people vanilla ice-cream by showing them the cone it goes in.

What Are Its Unique Selling Points

Here are the things you will not read elsewhere because they are the things that make this game good. You can map three separate input devices and you can adjust the max range, dead zones, linearity and FFB. There is support for a massive range of input devices, which means you can find the perfect one to help you master the game.

It is currently cheap and occasionally free, and it is better than Need For Speed Rivals. It is an old racing game and the PC version was only released in around 2006, but it still has a lot of character and style.

Nobody Is Saying You Will Fall In Love

The game does have its fair share of limitations, especially when you consider how far racing games have come, but this game has all the staples of a good racing game, and that is enough for some people.

Pros

  • The biggest collection of the legendary European Volkswagen Golf cars
  • A solid racing game
  • Professional car customization
  • The AI drivers don’t mind ramming you
  • Detailed car damage

Cons

  • Limited gameplay experience because of limited range of cars
  • The racing limitations are self imposed
  • Modern racing games are better
